End of Summer

The beach was beautiful this morning.  By 8:00 am I had parked my chair, spread on the SPF and took off down the already busy shoreline.   I hadn’t planned on being so lucky today, but then one never sees luck coming.
Today was supposed to be a routine cottage check.  Every few weeks, George and I zip to Kill Devil Hills to peruse the cottage and see if anything’s amiss.  That was the plan until friend and surfing buddy Mike called last night and suggested an early morning safari.  Who could turn that down?
With George and Mike bobbing in the lineup, I had a couple of hours to kill.  Blissful.

What to do first?  I walked south toward Avalon pier and passed a group of folks finishing up their Sunday morning beach worship service.  I totally get it.  What a place to pause and be grateful for life’s bounty and beauty.  Further down there were a few anglers, some skim-boarders and lots of families settling in for a full day.  I turned around way before the pier (it never seemed to get any closer).
I’m usually attuned to the tide….but this morning I was totally caught off guard.  While I was cooling off with a swim, a renegade wave washed over my chair, towel, bag…all of my stuff soaked.   No worries.
I took my first selfie thinking maybe I could post it sometime.  Feeling right proud of myself for thinking of this I clicked away taking 3 or 4 shots.   You can see the ocean, kind-of.   Not a selfie…..camera facing wrong way.  So much for my prowess.
Word is…..we might go again tomorrow morning.  Gotta celebrate these last days of summer the best way we know how.
